Only 10 minutes from downtown Savannah, Pooler is often called the “Doorway to Savannah”.

Pooler is located on two interstate highways; I-95, the main north/south corridor; and I-16, the interstate that dissects Georgia. It is also on US Highway 80 and only a few miles from the Georgia Ports Authority’s container port, the second busiest on the east coast.

Pooler is the center for commercial development in west Chatham County. Godley Station, the center for business development, has been successful in attracting large companies such as JCB to the area. Pooler is adjacent to the Savannah/ Hilton Head Airport. Easy accessibility makes the Pooler area attractive to businesses and industries that seek to establish, relocate or expand.

During the Civil War, Pooler was a railway stop called Pooler's Station--the last stop before Savannah on the Central of Georgia Railroad. In December 1864, it was a meeting place for Union officers led by William Tecumseh Sherman, who negotiated with Savannah authorities for the strategic port city's peaceful surrender .

Today, Pooler is an attractive area to live and raise a family. Boasting a very low crime rate, affordable housing, a good school system, an abundance of places of worship, several leisure activities, a strong recreational program and a small town community, Pooler has something for everyone.

Area attractions include golf courses, the Mighty Eight Air Force Museum, Oglethorpe Speedway (one of the oldest NASCAR race tracks in the country), Five Star Family Fun Park, the Ogeechee Canal, and a beach only 25 miles east of Pooler.
